By the #1 bestselling author of Lifeguard, a gleaming new summer thriller set in the luxurious Hamptons.
Montauk lawyer Tom Dunleavy’s client list is woefully small–occasional real estate closings barely keep him in paper clips. When he is hired to defend a local man accused in a triple murder that has the East Hampton world in an uproar, he knows that he has found the case of his lifetime.
The crime turns the glittering playground of the super-rich into a blazing inferno. Dunleavy’s client is a local hero, but Dunleavy knows the case rests atop a volcano of money, deception, and forbidden desires. His client is the perfect fall guy–unless he can find the key that unlocks the secret rooms of the gilt-shrouded set.
When Dunleavy is joined by his former flame, the savvy and well-connected attorney Kate Costello, he believes he has a chance. But payback is a bitch–especially from the rich. The violent retaliations of billionaires threatened by his investigation exceed anything Dunleavy has ever seen. With the entire nation’s eyes on him in a new Trial of the Century, Dunleavy orchestrates a series of revelations that lead to a stunning outcome–only to find afterward that the truth is wilder than anything he ever imagined.
Reading and Writing Goes Hand In Hand?
I have been an avid reader since before the age of 5. As I grew up that never changed. I simply began to read more books in different categories. However since I was a young teen I was told that I should be a writer.
This might seem great to be so encouraged, but the problem is I never said anything about being a writer. Everyone seems to assume that I read a lot so I can just hop on a computer and churn out the next bestseller.
They are certainly in for a disappointment. Yes I do write. Short novels for me at the time but it was only a year ago that I decided to try and I’m not really sure if I intend to continue or not. I enjoy reading, not so much with writing the stories.
And it gets annoying when people assume your wasting your life because you won’t do what you want to do. They all think that’s writing.
Reading Comics Online
If you love your Sunday comics then you should be aware that they can be found online as well. One of the places I go to read them is Yahoo! News. There is such a nice list of comics to choose from I haven’t even begun to read them all. Especially since you can go back roughly a week and read what you missed. When you click the link you will see a random comic. Scroll down to choose the comics you want to read.
Book Purchase and Shipping
I have talked previously about buying books online but the one problem that I do find is with the shipping. You can find books even on Amazon going for $0.01 depending on when it came out and it’s popularity but you can also find yourself paying $3.50 and more EACH and that is just for the shipping.
It is even worse on Ebay because the seller’s mandate the shipping themselves and as we know not everyone is honest. Before you get giddy with joy at finding that hard to find book and press that buy button. Take a look at everything and pay close attention to the shipping.
That “deal” you thought you just recieved could very well end up costing you twice as much just on the shipping alone. Also when buying new books or books on sale it is best to factor in the shipping and see whether or not you are actually saving money or losing it. Sometimes it’s good to buy that same book offline. You get when it’s purchased and you could save a buck here or there.
Books To Movies When Will It End
I turned on the tv yesterday and was unpleasantly surprised to see another book was being made into a movie. In this case it is the popular children’s series Nancy Drew. I can only hope they will do the novels justice and not make a stupid film because they think kids don’t know any better.
While I haven’t read those novels in years I do remember most of the books I read and I remember loving that series and a few others including The Babysitter’s Club series. That series was also turned into a movie which was absolutely dreadful and I was probably 15 or 16 when I saw it and hated it on sight.
I really do hope they realize their viewing audience aren’t complete morons but considering the way movies are and have been I wouldn’t hold my breath on that scenario.
Newest Book Releases
These are a few of the newest book releases in hardcover. Promise Me and The Faithful Spy are some of the books I’m running out to by.

- Clemente: The Passion and Grace of Baseball’s Last Hero
- David Maraniss
On New Year’s Eve 1972, following eighteen magnificent seasons in the major leagues, Roberto Clemente died a hero’s death, killed in a plane crash as he attempted to deliver food and medical supplies to Nicaragua after a devastating earthquake. David Maraniss now brings the great baseball player brilliantly back to life in Clemente: The Passion and Grace of Baseball’s Last Hero, a book destined to become a modern classic. Much like his acclaimed biography of Vince Lombardi, When Pride Still Mattered, Maraniss uses his narrative sweep and meticulous detail to capture the myth and a real man.

- Promise Me
- Harlan Coben
New York Times-bestselling author Harlan Coben returns with Promise Me — a searing new thriller and a story of how far we will go to protect our own . .
It has been six years since entertainment agent Myron Bolitar last played superhero. In six years he hasn’t thrown a punch. He hasn’t held, much less fired, a gun. He hasn’t called his friend Win, still the scariest man he knows, to back him up or get him out of trouble.

- The Faithful Spy
- Alex Berenson
A New York Times reporter has drawn upon his experience covering the occupation in Iraq to write the most gripping and chillingly plausible thriller of the post-9/11 era. Alex Berenson’s debut novel of suspense, The Faithful Spy, is a sharp, explosive story that takes readers inside the war on terror as fiction has never done before.
My Top 5 Favorite Children’s Books
Even as an adult I love the humor of childrens books and still try to find those books of the past online to re-purchase. Here are the five I love most:
- How To Fight A Girl
- How To Eat Fried Worms
- I Want To Go Home
- This Can’t Be Happening At McDonald Hall
- Beware The Fish
I found these books hilarious and unfortunately I am still in the process of trying to buy them again. Somewhere along the line of growing up they were lost and I always missed them. I did reclaim I want to go home, which I have already read three times and died a thousand deaths when my 1 year old niece had it in her hands and creased the cover. She’s a book page ripper.
Peter Hessler’s Oracle Bones
Peter Hessler’s Oracle Bones sheds light on a country that most of us know little about. You assume you do but what do we really know about them besides what might have been taught in history class and the fact that they are still a communist Country.
Hessler gives us a glimpse of past and present China, showing us the day to day lives of many such as an actress who got herself into political trouble, and trying to change their written language into something more Westernized.
The Caged Virgin : An Emancipation Proclamation for Women and Islam
Recently released in the US, a novel titled “The Caged Virgin : An Emancipation Proclamation for Women and Islam” by author Ayaan Hirsi Ali has been a bestseller. Ayaan Hirsi Ali writes about the injustices done to the women of Islam.
She writes about genital mutitalition and how the Western Countries seem to ignore it and also of the outdated views about virginity and forced marraiges.
The author escaped her own forced marraige to a distant relative and fled to the Netherlands. The book is touching and if you are easily disturbed you probably shouldn’t read it, but it should be read to see the religion through the eyes of a strong woman who lived it. Before reading the book I had read an excerpt that made me want to get the book even more. Here is the excerpt:
I know my father loves me, but I have made a choice that radically opposes everything he stands for. … I told him that I was making a stand for the rights of women in Islam. His reaction was: “Make a stand for what you fell is right, but make sure you do it in God’s name.” The fact that I have now publicly denounced God is a terrible disappointment to him, one he can barely accept. By smearing Islam I have smeared his reputation and his honor. That is why he has turned away from me. I feel for him, but at the same time I am furious … Every time he has had to make a choice between the community and his children, he has chosen the former. This hurts.
Another larger excerpt can be found at Amazon where you can also purchase the novel.
