What is self publishing?
Self publishing is bypassing the huge, traditional publishers and doing everything yourself. You would bear all the costs that a publisher would usually cover and market, distribute, store the books yourself.
Because you have no contracts with a publication, you keep all 100% of the profits, make your own schedule and write the books that you want to write, not what a publisher or agent thinks you should write. Plus you keep all the rights of the novels.
Doing this all by yourself is tough, but if you’ve got the guts and the right mentality, this could be the type of publishing for you. However on the internet and off there are small companies that help with self-publishing. Here are a few of them:

My wife has used Lulu.com to publish her book on journalling (Words With Wings, Volume 1).
She really liked the process — basically you upload a PDF of the book, decide how much to charge, and you can order an optional ISBN number so that places like Amazon will sell it as well.
I think the publishing world is changing, and we’ll only see more and more self-publishing options as time goes on. It is the democratization of publishing and literature, pushed by the Internet to a new level.
