Sweet Potato Queens’ Big Ass Cookbook and Financial Planner

The Sweet Potato Queens series of books is written by Jill Conner Browne. This Jackson, MS author collects antidotes and stories from her friends far and near (known as sweet potato queens in their own right)  then presents them in a humorous account in one of her books. I received Big Ass cookbook through Booksfree.com, so I wasn’t sure what to really expect. I had expected a traditional cookbook but in truth it’s the furtherest thing from a standard cookbook there is.

I can feel my southern roots pouring out just thinking about the Sweet Potato Queens cookbook. It’s full of humor, told with the southern gentile touch. There are recipes in the cookbook like the no spoon divinity, which promises that you will not need a spoon to eat this divinity. Divinity is one of those candies that if all conditions aren’t perfect, then you will have big mess instead of hard candy.

The financial advice is more of a “learn from our mistakes” sort of thing. It’s presented in the form of financial tips throughout the book usually following a story that depicts the given advice.

I had read a few excerpts to my husband that I thought were especially funny.  He, of course, missed some of the woman-centric humor and told me that I was sassy enough without reading this book that might plant ideas in my pretty, little head. (See? The southern talk is just creeping out.)

The Sweet Potato Queens’ Big-Ass Cookbook and Financial Planner is a fun read. Mixed in with all the humor are some might tasty recipes.
