Some Poker Book Recommendations

If you’re a poker player, one thing you’re going to want to do is pick up some poker books to increase your knowledge on the game. Below are a few books you might want to look at.

Harrington on Holdem Series: Dan Harrington is a World Champion Holdem player and all around nice guy. His book give you solid tournament and cash game theory and give you great step by step instructions on how to play the most popular game in the world today.

Play Poker Like the Pros. Phil Hellmuth is an 11 time WSOP Champion. This book is not very in depth compared to other books on the market and I don’t agree with everything he has to say on all topics, but he does try and give you some background in all variations of poker as opposed to just focusing on NL Holdem. It’s worth reading or getting the audio book.

Super System: Of course any poker player that is even remotely serious about improving their game needs to read this book and Super System 2. Doyle Brunson is the Godfather of Holdem and the greatest living poker player out there today. The lineup of players and authors that pen the chapters makes this a very solid read.

Small Stakes Holdem: For lower stakes players, this is probably a must have book in your collection. This book gives you a very strong background in playing lower stakes Holdem games. It focuses a great deal on Limit Holdem and gives you tools needed to win at lower stakes cash games.

There are many books out there on poker and the above are just a few recommendations. Of course, your choice of books will depend on your experience level, game choice, and preference in style. Regardless of the book you choose, if you are serious about improving your game, pick up a couple of books. The investment will pay dividends for years to come.
