“Running In Heels” by Anna Maxted

If any of you are looking for a great chick flick, “Running in Heels” by Anna Maxted is a great read. It’s fast, simple and fun and it’s one of the types that leaves you with a ‘feel good feeling’ about life and things in general.

This book starts with Natalie, a 27 year old who works as the PR person / secretary of a ballet company. The introduction to Natalie actually comes through Babs, her best friend, who is now getting married. Natalie, after finding this out completely freaks out about their friendship. Of course, this accompanies several of Natalie’s personal struggles that will have you cracking up. She deals with everything from the bad job, weight struggles, a nagging mother and a really bad boyfriend issue…and a really good boyfriend issue that goes bad at the exact time. As you read, you follow along the loops that she drags herself through and the head games that I’m sure some of us girls are familiar with.

While this book isn’t one of the most heady books, it definitely has some great things in it. If nothing else, read it for a feel good book with some good humor falling in line with it. And, beyond that, I’m sure that there are some situations or things in there that you too can relate to of being this age and going through some of the Natalie issues. For some reason, I really loved tapping into the characters insecurities, problems and pendulum swings that are considered ‘horrific.’ For the first time ever…. the situations that we hear about or find ourselves in… appeared to be quite funny.

This book definitely goes along my lines of a good read for a rainy day or a day when you just don’t feel like doing anything. It also stays in my pile of chick novels that actually work, despite themselves. If you want another one by Anna Maxted, you can also check out “Getting Over It.” It’s along the same lines as this book and definitely works in telling a good story that is easy, funny and something to relate to on some level.
