“Audition” chronicles the life of the world –renowned interviewer and television journalist Barbara Walters. Recently, Walters appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show chatting about her fascinating life and recently released book. Inside “Audition”, Walters talks about her life’s journey which began in Boston, Massachusetts. She reveals the impact of her sister’s disability and father’s ambition on her childhood and life to come. The memoir continues to delve into personal life choices which lead Walters to great success. These successes include her days at CBS, NBC, ABC and highly rated show 20/20.
“Audition” is also filled with juicy gossip. Walters goes behind the scenes of her controversial day time television show The View, which includes the complicated relationship with co-hosts Star Jones and Rosie O’ Donnell. Other shocking revelations describe her long-term affair with U.S. Senator Edward Brooke, and tumultuous relationship with daughter Jackie.
The book has had its fare share of criticism as well. Star Jones tells US Magazine “It is a sad day when an icon like Barbara Walters, in the sunset of her life, is reduced to publicly branding herself as an adulterer, humiliating an innocent family with accounts of her illicit affair and speaking negatively against me all for the sake of selling a book. It speaks to her true character.”
Barbara Walter’s life was and is filled with ups and downs, highs and lows. The title “Audition” refers to the author’s internal propensity to feel the pressure to be perfect, or in simpler terms, always auditioning for someone’s approval.
