Fairest

This is a book set in the same land as Ella Enchanted.

Aza is a girl who grew up in the Kingdom of Ayortha, the land of singers. She has an amazing singing voice, unfortunately she is considered larger than usual and ugly. She lives at the Featherbed Inn with her adopted family. She has discovered how to throw her voice and practices until it is perfected.

One day, she asked to go to the Royal Wedding as a companion to a duchess who stopped regularly at the Featherbed Inn. Aza went and while there the new queen over hears her throwing her voice. The new queen wants her to become her maid and help her. The queen can’t sing as well as her new countrymen and she wants Aza to pretend to sing for her. From there her life is turned upside down as her and the prince fall in love, she is accused of a conspiracy to overthrow the crown and is almost murdered by a spirit in a mirror. In the end, though, true love does conquer all.

This was a really good book and since I loved Ella Enchanted, I knew I would love this one too. Fairest is written by Gail Carson Levine.
