With all the recent superhero movies coming out the last few years, it’s no surprise that the comic book and superhero merchandise is all over store shelves. When there’s a comic book or superhero fan on your holiday shopping list, what do you usually get them? Let’s see, you can get them a DVD of the movie or another toy that will sit around and collect dust, because as we all know, collectors will keep those toys in their package so they’ll be worth something someday.
Do what you will, but I recently found an alternative. We have a close friend who is the biggest comic book fan I know. For his birthday we bought him The Marvel Encyclopedia. On the Lakeside Collection website it’s touted as, “The most comprehensive A-to-Z guide the Marvel Universe ever published.” I actually believe it is. That friend I mentioned — well, with all his knowledge of comics, he actually learned more from this book. There were characters and storylines he never knew about. The book is put together very nicely. It’s full of information and beautifully illustrated pictures of all the characters.
Lakeside also has The DC Comics Encyclopedia. According to the website this one has more than 1,000 classic DC Comics heroes and villains. I haven’t picked that up for our friend yet, but guess what he’s getting for Christmas?
Both books are only $16.95 from the Lakeside Collection. I’m sure you can find them at local and chain bookstores as well.
