A Painted House

“A Painted House” was the first book by John Grisham that I had ever read. And I am glad that I found this author. He did an amazing job at this story and once I got into it, I had a hard time putting it down.
The beginning was slow, but it eventually picked up. Luke Chandler is a 7 year old who lives with his mom and dad and his grandparents. They are cotton farmers and every summer they have the difficult job of picking the cotton. They hire hands every year and this year they hire Mexicans and a family from the hills, who Luke is very unsure of. They ruin his baseball field in his front yard. But he does like Tally, a 17 year old girl of the family. He confides in her as a friend, but he does not care for Hank at all. He is rude and mean and bossy.
Everyone tells Luke secrets and he is expected to keep them all. That is really hard for a 7 year old.
I would love to read more of John Grisham’s work. This was an excellent story.
