Art and Creative Development

Art and Creative Development for Young Children by Robert Shirrmacher is a nice book to add to any preschool resource library. It is $36.25 and contains 424 pages.
The book has five sections that include the following: Creativity, Young children as Artists, Art and Aesthetics, providing art experiences, and roles and strategies. Each section has objectives and a summary at the end of the section.
The preface of the book stresses that art is a process, not a product. I totally agree with this concept. Art is not something that should be copied, that is more of a craft. Art is where children are allowed to explore and make choices themselves. They should not have to have cookie cutter crafts to take home and the preface explains this all very well.
This book is very good at helping with art activities that are not only fun, but are very meaningful to the children that you care for.
