How hard it is to promote a book

It is very hard to promote a book and get sales. I have been trying everything that I can and I keep hitting deadend after deadend. I can’t even get my author website going, which is www.williamswafford.com. I have been trying its hard when there is so many scams out there.
Everything seems to cost money, and when your not making money this just don’t get started. Then there is no why of knowing if your doing things right. I think people need to make things a lot easier for up and coming authors.
So let’s keep everything going and support each other.
