a bad agent

I am a struggling author, struggling to get my work out there. I thought that I had found a way through an agent. I just found out that they are con-artist, which I had a feeling to begin with. This company is online under the name of Writer’s Literary agency. They are curtainly under an investigation.
They got me for over two thousand dollars for a manuscript edit. They said that they had found a publishing company, which I did not know they were tied together, and the publisher said I had to pay for another edit. I paid six hundred dollars just for the joint-venture contract with them. I feel stupid and was about ready to give up writing all together.
Please watch out who you take your work to, because you never know what is going to happen, and nobody knows who to trust anymore.
