A review of “Blow” by Bruce Porter
Posted on February 04, 2009 by Amanda Allen
In this book the main story is very compelling. Blow is the story of George Jung, a small-town guy born in Massachusetts who decides it would be fun to sell marijuana and cocaine instead of getting a real job. He gets caught more than once, and eventually loses everything, including his family.
This book basically outlines, word by word, the process by which the coca plant becomes cocaine and crack. It also gives the most effective strategy for cutting and distributing the drugs for sale. Odds are you don’t really have any use for that information, but it is pretty cool to know.
The writing in Blow is narrative and journalistic. It’s concise. At the same time it fringes on being overkill. The style blends perfectly with the subject matter, and made for a pretty good movie.
To sum it up, if you’re interested in organized crime or drugs, check this one out.
I give it a B+.
