If you have a child who has never been to the dentist, you may consider reading “Taryn Goes to the Dentist” by Jill Krementz. The book features real pictures of a girl going to the dentist for the first time. She goes to see Dr. Levine, where he counts her teeth and shines them, then paints them with fluoride. The book does a great job at explaining what is going on, such as why she has to wear a paper “bib”.
This book is perfect to show children that a dentist office is not scary. I liked the fact that real photos were used so children can actually see this before stepping foot into a dentist office. It also features a cute song to sing about getting rid of germs on the teeth.
