A great read for preschoolers is “The Napping House” by Audrey Wood. It is illustrated by Don Wood. It retails for about $15 for a hard cover book.
Everyone is sleeping. Granny is in her cozy bed when a dreaming child joins her by layng on top of her. Soon a dozing dog joins them, followed by a snoozing cat, a slumbering mouse and a wakeful flea. The flea bites the mouse and the mouse scares the cat. It continues down the line until everyone is woken up. Soon the whole house is wide awake.
The beginning of the book has some nice calming colors. The end of the book has bright colors. The illustrations are fantastic and the story is very cute. This book promotes reading as once young preschoolers hear it a few times, they can read it to themselves just by looking at the pictures to tell what is going on.
