The First Filipino

Jose Rizal, as the National Hero of the Philippines was also legendary. In his short stay in this world, he contributed great things to his country hence, he was looked up almost as a saint by many.
In his award winning biography of Dr. Jose Rizal entitled “The First Filipino ” author Leon Ma. Guerrero portrays Rizal in a different light. He let Rizal talks throughout the book. In this way, he said that the reader would know the true Rizal, how he thought, what were his feelings, and his burning desire to liberate his country from foreign oppressors.
He particularly detailed Rizal’s life in Dapitan, Mindanao where the hero was vanished. This is one of the most important period of the hero’s life for he put to practice his ideals in this town. A brief but meaningful interlude in his life.
