Tips for Writers
Posted on May 30, 2009 by Esperanza Dodge
My biggest tip for writers is to diversify your income. Just like any job here in the US, the recession can affect writers too. Downsizing is happening all across the board and some agencies might just drop a writer or two to save some money. So always have several clients to work for. Or if you are writing a book, pick up some freelancing jobs on the side, just to always be safe. You need to pay the bills and get food on the table.
Second, always be on the lookout for new jobs. You can find these on Craigslist, writing forums or even google, though google does not always filter out the scams. Your best best is to talk to writers themselves. They’re going through the same issues as you are and you can benefit from one another’s knowledge in various settings and working for different companies. You can even bounce ideas off one another.
