Boredom got me browsing through my old books and magazines. I have a lot of chick lit; it’s my guilty pleasure. No.. I don’t even feel guilty about it. One of the books that caught my eye again was a Shopaholic book, Shopaholic and Baby. It’s the third book in the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella.
I love the Shopaholic series. First off, I really like chick lit books for their light and funny storytelling and usually feel-good endings. I mean I don’t really mind that it doesn’t exactly make me think and doesn’t require a very high IQ to understand. I actually like that reading chick lit is pretty mindless. It relaxes me. So that alone is enough to make me like this series. But something sets this one apart from other mindless girly reads. Sophie Kinsella’s style is so witty and amusing. I find myself often chuckling alone while reading this, even if it’s already the second time. The character she created, Rebecca Bloomwood, is so fun to follow. She’s gullible, but she’s got exceptional intuition. She’s shallow and materialistic, but she puts her loved ones above all.
When I finished re-reading the book, I was in high spirits. It didn’t only kill my boredom, it refreshed my outlook as well.
