How to Do a Manual Edit

Part of becoming a good writer is learning how to manually edit your work without a spell checker. There as many methods as there are good writers but here are some of the techniques I use.

First of all, read your article out loud. It is much easier to catch your mistakes when you are reading out loud. You can almost hear them, especially there are grammar errors. Read aloud slowly and really pay attention to what you are saying.

Second, when you do a manual edit of your work, you should read words, not sentences. By looking only at individual words you can see spelling mistakes that you might miss over otherwise.

Finally, read the piece of writing over in full watching for spelling and grammar errors. Examine sentences to make sure that they are full sentences that make sense if they are read without the surrounding sentences to back them up.

Doing a manual edit of your work will allow you to complete better writing assignments.
