Glimpses of World History written by the first Indian prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru is one of the finest specimen of Indian writing in England. This rather voluminous work is actually a compilation of a collection of letters written by Jawaharlal Nehru to his daugher Indira, when he served time in prison fighting against British rule.
The work is remarkable for its covers the entire history of the world in a comprehensive manner, including history of far off places and phases, often neglected in conventional world history books. Nehru adds his personal touch and yet narrates the course of events in a truly objective way. Reading the book, it becomes evident that Nehru has written passionately and considering the fact that he wrote it when he was in prison, with limited resource materials, one cannot but admire the vast knowledge imbibed in his memory.
Glimpses of World History is one of the best non-fiction works ever written, and a must read for all people at all ages. The reading of this book would not only enhance ones knowledge of history but also broaden one’s outlook and enhance one’s personality.
