With detectives like Hercules Poirot and Miss Marple, Agatha Christie proved herself to be the queen of the crime novel. With plots centered about Englishmen, Europeans, Americans and people from far off lands, her books undoubtedly feature a death or several deaths and a number of people in positions to have committed the crime.
With Exotic titles like, “Murder on the Orient Express” and “Ten Little Indians,” you never really know what the setting or the plot will be. Agatha Christie has a way of weaving a tale that makes every single one of her books unique and suspenseful.
Hercules Poirot is a private detective from Belgium who wears a monocle. He is often called upon to go to old English country estates and mingle with aristocracy and the locals to solve the crime. He differs from Ms. Marple, who is an old lady that some people may refer to as a nosey parker. These two protagonists are different and each bring their magic to the pages.
There are many crime thriller books available today with gruesome murder scenes that make me wince. I don’t need to hear horrific details of how someone was killed and mutilated .I don’t want the blood and violence and that is why I always read and love Agatha Christie when I want to read a crime novel, because she is the Queen of the crime thriller.
