I’ve found that one of the most important things before starting a career in writing is finding a place and time to actually write. It is impossible to do if one does not try hard enough. Without the time to write, one will never meet one’s goals of a writing career…but who has time in this day and age? Everyone’s always rushing around, getting to the next event or recital or meeting…Who has time to sit down and write? Here are some tips to help with finding that precious time.
1) Times when you are sitting down: Let’s say you have a ten minute commute on a subway. Now, let’s also say that you have some sort of device that you can take with you, whether it be a PDA or notebook and pen, that will allow you to get some thoughts down on paper. Write for those ten minutes.
2) Standing in line at the store is also a great time to break out the pen and paper. You may not get alot written, but it’s a start and that’s what we’re trying for.
3) What do you do while pumping gas, just stand there and watch the numbers go up? What if you just jotted down some thoughts about your story, poem, or article?
These are only a few suggestions. Once you start looking, time for writing will make an appearance for you more and more often.
