The Five Find-Outers and Dog is another mystery novel series by the famous British author Enid Blyton, published between 1943 and 1961. The theme runs strikingly parallel to the Famous Five series, where a gang of teenage children who unite during summer vacations stumble upon an adventure every summer. In the Five Findouters and a dog, the children are Fatty, Larry, Daisy, Pip and Bets, with the dog Buster. Mr. Goon, the policeman is a regular in all the novels, which are set in the fictitious village of Peterswood in Buckhimshire.
Fatty or Frederick Algernon Trotteville is the hero, and the leader of the Five Find-Outers. As the only child of his parents, he receives generous amounts of pocket money from his parents and wealthy relatives. He is a character of multifarious talents, with interest in disguise, and ventriloquism, and a skilled orator and poet. Bets or Elizabeth Hilton, another member of the gang adores him.
Larry or Laurence Daykin is the eldest in the gang of five and the original leader of the Five Find-Outers, and passes the mantle of leadership to Fatty somewhat reluctantly. The other three members are Daiosy, Larry’s sister and two sisters, Pip or Philip Hilton and Bets or Elizateh Hilton.
Theophilus Goon or Mr Goon as he is commonly known is the village policeman who is outwitted by the gang of five in almost every story. His nephew, Ern Goon is a de-facto sixth member of the gang.
