Let me just say right now that I am not really a fan of Twilight. I just do not like it, but I can understand the appeal to girls that do. But I am not here to bash on Twilight, no, I am here to extoll the things that the series did for the teen fantasy genre. What never fails to impress me about books that become popular is that they pave the way for books that may not have been published otherwise. The Twilight Saga, as it is being referred to now, did for fantasy writers almost the same thing Harry Potter did for them. Granted Twilight is mostly about vampires and werewolves, it has opened many doors for writers who may not have been able to get a break if Twilight hadn’t been so popular. Although there were many vampire related novels for teens before Twilight was published, they did not get the attention they may have deserved. Now with Twilight in existance, these novels are getting more attention than ever before. Teen books about vampires and other supernatural beings were often on the back burner and never really given much recognition by the masses. Now, because of Twilight, more and more books of this sort are being printed. I think that is great.
