William Shakespeare is perhaps the most famous author in English. A dramatist who lived during the reign of Queen Elizabeth in the 16th Century England, he wrote his dramas primarily to be played in the stage at that time. Most of his dramas received widespread popularity and acceptance at that times, and his popularity has actually increased with the passage of times. Much of his works have become legends in their own rights, and the style adopted by Shakespeare have become the benchmark and literary standards adopted by later day writers.

The most famous of William Shakespeare’s plays include works relating to history and legends such as Julius Casar, Richard III, Macbeth, King Lear and others, romances, the most famous of them being Romeo and Juliet an comedies such as All;s Well that Ends Well. In fact most of Shakespearean plays can be divided in comedies and tragedies. His tragedies are more popular and considered higher in literary circles.
