The feeling one gets in the pit of your stomach can be scary and make you sick.
When preparing to speak in front of a large crowd it’s a good idea to have your facts related to your topic in an outline format. Research your topic by reading other experts in the field your speaking of and then condense all of the information to a well thought out timeline. Have your self a good story to share with your audience, don’t speak at your crowd, speak with your crowd. The last speaker of any forum has a difficult time keeping the attention of your audience due to the minds of your listeners are already out the doors and ready to leave for their cars.
The key to gaining the attention and command respect from any large group is to share a real story that will bond you with your crowd. Be funny but be serious about the topic at hand. Always be well prepared with your facts and you will be the leader of the field. Don’t be afraid to take the stage when you’re well prepared. Look to the back of the room if need be and get comfortable with yourself then start looking people in the eyes and they will fall in love you and your delivery.
As a child advocate and one who speaks in front of very large crowds on a regular basis I use these tactics to share stories in speeches that will bond myself with an audience. I speak in front Dr’s, lawyers, teachers, police officers, students, and every single time I do I feel the butterflies and excitement like anyone else. These are small hints that you can use in your next speech.
