This is the book from where the thriller film “The Silence of the Lambs” came from. Well it is good in film and better in the book. In the book it looks like a detective story, plot in the United States. When an FBI specialist needed a expert to psychiatrically examine a murder plus kidnapping suspect on large, the bureau decided to consult Dr. Hannibal Lecter, an inmate in a “extra” maximum security prison. Imprisoned due to murder, and been associated with cannibalism Dr. Lecter has an personal jail warden whose expertise in penology prevented Lecter from having a chance to escape.
The intriguing scene here in the book is Dr. Hannibal Lecter. He has a unusual appearance, with deformed limbs, but his expertise in psychiatry is unparalleled. He has a bizarre ability to impale and decapitate his victims by eating their flesh, reputation for being a cannibal. He is housed with other inmates with mental problems as well. While in prison, he just reads medical journals, magazines, etc. Because of his knowledge, he has some unexpected visitors, mostly investigators and medical practitioners, that need his expertise. And due to his obscure character and record of escaping prison cells, he was assigned with a personal warden who ensures that there was no chance that Dr. Lecter can escape while he was his guard. There was always a space between the corridor and Dr. Lecter’s cell, and anything to be passed and given was put into a tray and slid through a small slit in his cell.
After some time Dr. Lecter, due to his good behavior was transferred to another prison facility. Losing his vigilant warden, Dr. Lecter plans to escape. The FBI was still in need of his services, and a roll of events leads to the capture of the suspect but unfortunately Dr. Lecter escapes jail and eludes police. With Dr. Lecter ending a fugitive, the book ends. Maybe there’s a sequel and I will tell you about it if i found it.
